A beautifully detailed 1/5th scale hand made and hand painted miniature military drum of the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards. A museum quality collectible based on the 1905 drum emblazon.
This miniature drum is uniquely hand made from brass tubes. As a result, it is made from the same materials as the full size drum. Consequently it combines real vellum drum skins, separate hand painted drum hoops, leather rope tighteners, miniature hand made rope, wooden filials and brass snare hooks.
Furthermore, it is based upon similar miniature military drums made by Henry Potter in the 1950s. For example, an original Potter’s miniature drum is here.
The 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1685 as the Earl of Arran's Regiment of Cuirassiers. It was renamed as the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards in 1788 and service for two centuries, including the First World War, before being amalgamated with 7th Dragoon Guards (Princess Royal's), to form the 4th/7th Dragoon Guards in 1922.
