About Pownall Bentley

Pownall Bentley is a specialist military collectables company. It makes museum quality scaled miniature collectables of British military drums. It was founded by retired Army Officer, Marco Ryan.

Not for Profit – Pownall Bentley

Pownall Bentley makes all of its products, or redistributes them on a “Not For Profit” basis. Any small operating profit that is made – after the tiny costs of running the website – are split equally at the end of the financial year as a contribution to the Regimental Associationof the Royal Dragoon Guards – the amalgamation of my old regiment, the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards with the 4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards – and Help for Heroes, the leading charity dealing with the rehabilitation of serviceman who have been killed, wounded or disabled on active service.

Why Not for Profit?

Well, firstly, I have a day job on the Board of a large plc and so the hobby that helps me to relax from the stress of that job is to hand make miniature drums and helmets. It has now got to the stage where they are good enough to sell to collectors and former military colleagues, but I am not that interested in doing this commercially. I am, however, very happy to help support a good cause.

The Store

Pownall Bentley is an online-only web store. This way we can minimise the costs and run as a lean organisation, thereby increasing the percentage of profit that can be contributed to the charities.

Initially we focused on Marco’s old regiment (The 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards.) concentrating on producing the drums, helmets and standards of that regiment, its antecedents – the 5th (Prince Charlotte of Wales) Dragoon Guards, and the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons –  the amalgamations (4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards) and their successors (The Royal Dragoon Guards).

But the drums quickly became popular and so I have started to extend the range to include, on-demand, other regiments such as The Foot Guards, The Black Watch, The Royal Marines and the North Irish Horse
